Some games do this by sending data from player to player to player. This is called “peer to peer” networking. Most games, however, use something called a dedicated server application. This dedicated server app is a program specifically designed to collect data from each player and redistribute it, as necessary, to the other players in the game(s) you are hosting. To effectively host and support the content you install you need to have a good amount of bandwidth for the players connected. Most users that buy and play multiplayer games are using a “broadband internet service,” and can only support between 3 and 5 players at any given time. With a dedicated web server you will receive an internet connection that can support any type of hosting you do.
